I am Takatoki, a rising first-year university student studying for a Bachelor of Commerce. Having tutored for many years, I have learnt the value of sharing my passion for current affairs with students to keep their subjects engrossing and applicable to the real world - while helping them prepare for the level of context required to succeed in exams. Taking advantage of the one-to-one nature of private tuition, I deliver conversation-led lessons that explore the syllabus in a collaborative way, prompting students to engage with the subject and its importance properly. To help students perform in exams, I spend a large portion of a lesson helping a student plan and begin to write an essay or short answer in response to past exam questions. Having represented New Zealand at the Australasian Economics Olympiad, I can also offer tutoring to students who are looking to compete for a spot on future national teams for both the preliminary and final round.

I am a university professor have been teaching Economics and Finance more than 25 years. I have more than 10 years of experience tutoring New Zealand students for NCEA Levels 1–3 examinations and internal assessments. I provide personalised, curriculum-focused support in Accounting, Economics, Statistics, Calculus, and Algebra. My tutoring helps students understand key concepts, develop effective problem-solving methods, practise examination-style questions, and improve confidence under assessment conditions. Lessons are tailored to each student’s current level, school programme, and academic goals. Over the years, many of my students have achieved substantial improvements in their understanding, assessment performance, and overall grades. I focus not only on preparing students for immediate NCEA assessments, but also on building the mathematical, analytical, and economic foundations needed for university study.
